Thermo Fisher: Aurora
10-month coordinated expansion involving mechanical and plumbing systems, completed with a total project cost of 2.3M, including new process water, RO water, steam, condensate, underground drainage, PRV systems, 36 stainless kettles, condensate pumps, heat exchangers, autoclave installation, and a new pump room integrated with the existing chiller plant. High-precision work supporting life-science manufacturing.
The Thermo Fisher Aurora Project, beginning with Building 1 in Lenexa, KS, was successfully completed with Purdum serving as the General Contractor. Jarred Welch acted as the site superintendent, while Seth Rogers oversaw the project as the manager for Martin Mechanical. Spanning 10 months, the mechanical and plumbing project involved collaboration with INSCO for insulation and Sheetmetal Contractors to renovate the duct systems. The scope of work included the extension and upgrade of steam, condensate, process water, compressed air, underground drains, and RO water systems. New steam and condensate lines were integrated into the existing boiler system, featuring a newly installed PRV station.
The team installed, set, and piped 36 stainless steel production kettles for laboratory use, connecting them to steam, condensate, process temperature water, and compressed air systems to support operations. Additional installations included five condensate pump systems, one autoclave, a PRV station, and two heat exchangers. A new pump room was designed and installed, integrating with the upgraded chiller system to meet process demands. The RO water system was extended to support lab operations, and new floor cutting and trench drains were added. Despite the complexity, the team successfully adhered to the project schedule and ensured all systems remained operational during the expansion and transition phases.
